d netting, she also integrates decorative materials such as sequins and fur, and even recycled scraps like snakeskin bags, which are put together by sewing, embroidering, pasting, folding, tying and mending. They embody the traditional female worker’s experiences while disclosing a girl’s everyday life, including clothing, accessories, gadgets ...... But here, Chen Mutian reveals a simplicity and vulgarity that come from countryside folk and streetwise aesthetics, dissolving those somewhat iconic "female aesthetics" with current sensibilities.

Other than the gender-specific materials she uses that deviate from the classic modernism, Chen Mutian's works include many figurative and imaginative images, some of which come from Han Dynasty silk manu, some of which are symbols that circulate in today’s public arena, and others are born out of the artist's pure fantasy, with local and personal accents, as well as a touch of surrealistic escape and wonder.

She treats her works of art as she were to decorate and organize her boudoir, both clean and wild, dignified and lovely. There, she can fantasize, be quirky, pout, and throw tantrums, embroider flowers and rag dolls at the same time. These two seeming contradictions are the tension and motivation of Chen Mutian’s practice, which we could attribute them to nature and culture, or wildness and intellectualism, unsophisticated and finesse. These psychological archetypes that drive expression and confession are clearly embedded in her works, which is where we discover the metaphor of the exhibition theme "Garden and Lace".

About the Artist

陈牧甜，1987年原名湖南益阳。2009年本科毕业于广州美术学院油画系，2013年硕士毕业于中南财经政法大学，2015年毕业于中的央美术学院一年制。前为工作和贫困在益阳。

陈牧甜剧作由大量的诡异符号与柔软的美感上有，那些形似记事字又已伸展览会至脚本语言的诗意与图案，都是着陈牧甜对世界的独特洞察，也是她发挥现实的幽秘维度，更是她深入忽略与建立隐含的系列隐喻。艺术创作者家通过梦幻与浪漫的色彩隐含，使得剧作始终能让听众产生极具个人意识的忽略。

陈牧甜独特的语言学和隐含灵感，源自益阳马王堆成土的“云虚纹”，远古记事化里头的仙道故事与前为代花木兰在她的创作者中的交相辉映，维度多维且摇滚乐。通过油画、形色各异的布匹与综合金属材料以及新媒体和装置等媒介与方式，艺术创作者家尽强力寻找着一种专属的思维和转达方式，试图为贫困在前为实贫困中的的人们造就一个能忘却烦恼、且充满奇趣的内心景观。早先剧作中的，陈牧甜更进一步开拓和探索着金属材料的变化与可能性，方式上越加自由，幻灯片更为广泛，而风格则愈趋成熟，语言学与气质渐成一派新气质。

Chen Mutianwas born in 1987 in Zhuzhou, Hunan, China. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the Oil Painting Department from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2009, a master’s degree from Hunan Normal University in 2013 and finished her advanced studies in Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2015. She currently lives and works in Changsha.

Chen Mutian's works are composed of a multitude of mysterious symbols and camber lines. Strokes and patterns that resemble words and have been extended to graphic form, implying Chen Mutian's unique insight into the world. It is not only a secretive space for her imagination, but also a series of metaphors for her in-depth understanding and expression. Through the dreamy and romantic color expressions, the works have always been able to create a very personal and conscious understanding for the audience.

Chen Mutian's unique language and expressions were inspired from the “cloud imaginary lines”excavated from Mawangdui Han Tombs of Changsha. The stories of immortality from ancient cultures and modern legends intersect in her creations, which are multi-dimensional and psychedelic. Through oil painting, various shapes and colors cloth and mixed media, as well as new media and installations, Chen Mutian strives to find an exclusive way of thinking and expression, trying to create an inner landscape full of wonder for people living in a real life to forget their fears. In her recent works, Chen Mutian has further explored the variation and possibilities of materials, becoming more free in form, more extensive in materials, more mature in style, with a new image of language and temperament.

Chen Mutian's recent solo exhibitions include: Kursaal Mazurka , Yuxiang Cotton Mill, Changsha (2018); Homeland , Phoenix Art Palace, Wuxi (2015). Her major group exhibitions include: Matter , Paper-Based Art, Changsha (2021); Wall Power , Times Art Museum, Beijing (2019); You · Wu , Hunan Provincial Exhibition Hall, Changsha (2017); Fantastic Art China , Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2016). She won the Silver Award of the Seventh Oil Paintings Exhibition of Hunan Province (2015); Hunan Female Painter Exhibition Art Award (2011); Hunan Exhibition Art Award (2010). In addition, her works have been collected by art museum, art institutions and private collection, including the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Meixi Lake International Culture Art Centre and T Contemporary Art Centre.
